South Shore Charter School’s academic program provides a rigorous, child-centered learning experience that prepares scholars to think critically, solve real-world problems, and build a strong foundation for future success. Our program emphasizes a standards-based curriculum, strong foundational literacy and math skills, and opportunities for enrichment in the arts, music, STEM, and physical education. Scholars engage in meaningful learning tasks that are culturally responsive, developmentally appropriate, and differentiated to meet individual learning needs.
Our instructional model includes small group instruction, guided reading, and targeted academic interventions that support every scholar’s growth. We use data-driven instruction and frequent progress monitoring to ensure scholars are making strong academic gains. With a focus on both academic achievement and character development, our goal is to equip scholars with the skills, habits, and mindsets needed for success in middle school, high school, college, and beyond.

We implement Project Lead the Way in our engineering course to create an engaging, hands-on classroom environment and empower students to develop in-demand knowledge and skills needed to cultivate ingenuity. The curriculum provides students with investigative and problem-solving skills that are supported through scientific inquiry and engineering-designed lessons.

We implement Responsive Classroom as a part of our character education curriculum. The impact of the global pandemic on our community is beyond measure. Collectively, we are dealing with an immense degree of grief, economic and social upheaval. Our character education program focuses on building a sense of resiliency in scholars to repair the harm from this traumatic time in our world’s history. We also implement a social-emotional learning program to help students develop self-management skills and encourage responsible decision-making.
